The campsite
The anarchist campsite Appelscha ( a translation of what the founders called it would be ‘Free-Socialist, Antimilitarist, Drug- and Alcoholfree campsite ‘for Freedom-Pondering”) started in 1933. It started out of the free-socialist and anarchist youthgroups in the north of the netherlands, who needed a place for their yearly gatherings, called ‘land-days’. Since then the Pinksterlanddagen are held here.
The terrain is maintained and managed by the regulars. These campers alle take part in the organisation based on anarchist principles.
There is always room for visitors, with a tent or a campervan, or you can rent the bungalow. You can enjoy the quiet and beautiful forest from here. There’s also space for gatherings big and small, for instance there have been animal rights and eco-activist events in appelscha.
