Social media

The PL has been on insta for years. Everyone is there, so it’s hard to avoid having a presence. We’d rather be independent of meta to promote ourselves, but also don’t want to isolate ourselves.
That’s why we choose to communicate through our website first. Information here is less vapid, not dependent on algorithms, and can be read by people without an insta account. But the reality is that we all got used to feeds presenting us info, instead of opening websites regularly to see if there’s a new blog or something.
That’s why we joined Mastodon! If that’s a new word for you then you’re invited to the workshop about it during the weekend, but in short: open source twitter. Mastodon is part of the fediverse, a system of federated social media.
Sounds complicated, but you know the idea from e-mail: You choose a server (gmail, riseup, proton, or your own domain) and can communicate with people on different servers. The PL is on todon.nl, a server ran on anarchist principles. But our toots can be read and interacted by people on different servers, or even without an account. There’s a fediverse insta (pixelfed), facebook (friendica), but mastodon, which has a twitter-vibe, is the most active.
We’ll try to toot regularly before the PL. But we also want to use the masto during the weekend to share info. Program changes, lost and found, stuff like that. So you wont only have to rely on the blackboard and speaker announcements for that.
So, go follow our mastodon. And if you don’t have an account yet sign up quickly! Click here for more info on how it works, and here for a list of servers to choose from.
